There is one Important Bird Areas found in Pande Game Reserve (TZ IBA 49).

Conservation Initiatives were supported around the Reserve by the Tanzania Forest Conservation Group as part of the Misitu Yetu Project between 2000 – 2005.

Kinondoni - Pande Game Reserve

Description: Forest, woodland, thicket and grassland on a ridge between 80 - 126 m asl.

Location: 6° 40’ 32”S - 6° 44’ 10”S; 39° 04’ 10”E - 39° 05’ 40”E

Closest settlements: 25 km NW of the centre of Dar es Salaam. Neighbouring villages: Msumi, Msakuzi, Mabwe Pande, Mpiji Magoe and Mbopo.

Area: 1226 ha

Threats: Timber harvesting and charcoal production.

Conservation initiatives: Managed by Wildlife Division. Conservation initiatives were supported around the Reserve by the Tanzania Forest Conservation Group as part of the Misitu Yetu Project between 2000 – 2005

Reserve name: Dondwe Forest Reserve

Description: Forest and woodland between 100 - 200 m asl

Location: 7° 00’ S; 39° 10’E

Closest settlements: Private farm and open prison within forest

Area: 380 ha

Temeke - Ngaramia Riverine Forest

Reserve name: Ngaramia Riverine Forest

Description: Riverine coastal forest between 0 – 50 m asl

Location:

Closest settlements: Gomvu and Mbutu villages

Area: 3000 ha

More details

Threats: Timber harvesting, pole cutting, agricultural encroachment

Conservation initiatives: Tanzania Forest Conservation Group initiated the Ngaramia Riverine Forest Conservation Project 2000, working with local communities to management the forest with support from M.A. Dobie.
